Data Science, Computational Intelligence and Cybersecurity Lab (DCIC-LAB)

Focus/Vision

The focus of the DCIC-LAB is the application of data science, machine learning, deep learning and blockchain technologies in solving problems in the developing world. DCIC would lead in cybersecurity research and education in Ghana and beyond. There are new cyber threats against networks, information systems and critical infrastructures. The Lab will develop Machine Learning and Deep Learning-based tools that will confront increasingly sophisticated and damaging cyber attacks while also addressing the pressing needs of the nation's cybersecurity workforce.

Research Areas

  • Privacy-preserving Machine Leaning Algorithms
  • Intrusion Detection and Prevention Algorithms.
  • Information Theoretic Security and Physical Layer Security.
  • Blockchain-based security for Internet of Things (IoT).
  • Blockchain-Enabled Provenance and Traceability in IoT
  • Application of AI fighting Mobile Money Fraud in Ghana

Lab Goals

  • To help students/researchers learn the techniques and tools for data collection, transformation , processing, visualization and optimization.
  • Develop and deploy real-world solutions to tackle network security problems.
  • To provide a foundation for understanding long-range challenges as current threats evolve
  • To build research topics that applies computational intelligence in the various fields of Telecommunication.
  • Hold biweekly meetings between students and researchers on the progress of research works.
  • Publish research findings.
