Welcome Message by Head of Department

Telecom Eng.
Prof. James Dzisi Gadze
Head, Dept. Telecommunication Engineering

Telecommunication Engineering integrates Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. It is primarily centered on the design of circuits, systems and solutions for the processing and transmission of information in the form of voice, data, graphics and video at ever-increasing speeds and in a growing number of ways over a great distance via wired or wireless media.

The department of Telecommunication Engineering strives to be a global hub for quality research in Telecommunication Engineering and also provides a transformative and co-created education in modern communication networks and systems. We ,also, strive in not only providing students with excellent technical knowledge in Wireless Communication, Fiber Optics, Data Science, AI, Computer Networking and Antenna Design among others but, also, competitive skills through frequent practice in state-of-the-art labs.

The Department runs an undergraduate programme, BSc. Telecommunication Engineering and two Postgraduate Programmes; MPil Telecommunication Engineering and PhD Telecommunication Engineering. The three broad Research areas in the Department of Telecommunication Engineering include RF Microwave and Millimeter Wave Engineering Research; Communication, Networking and Signal Processing Research and Data Science, Computational Intelligence and Cybersecurity Research. Our MPhil and PhD programmes prepare graduates to address the challenges of connectivity, security, software defined networks, artificial intelligence and the general scope of telecommunication that is continuously shaping and transforming our everyday lives.
