Commissioning of Virtual InfoSec Africa Cybersecurity Training Lab
On Tuesday, 21st June, 2022 the fully furnished Virtual Infosec Africa Cybersecurity Training Lab was commissioned for the department of telecommunication engineering, college of engineering-KNUST.
The ceremony took place in the lab's premises and lasted for two hours.
The first of its kind in any public university in the country. The Lab will equip students with experience into the cyber-world and also prepare them adequately for the industry.
It was commissioned by Prof. Mark Adom Asamoah (Provost, College of Engineering), Mr. Emmanuel Sekyere Asiedu (CEO, Virtual Infosec Africa) and assisted by Prof. Abdul-Rahman Ahmed (Dean Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering), Dr. James Dzisi Gadze (HOD, Telecommunication Eng.), Ing Kwame A. P. Agyekum (Industrial Liaison Officer, Telecommunication Eng.), Mr. Bondzie Acquah (VP, Director of Operation, VSA), Mr. Daniel Lamptey (Director of Technical Services, VIA).
During the ceremony, Mr. Emmanuel Sekyere Asiedu addressed the press, students and staff present saying “the lab was important to equip KNUST with requisite tools to train students to gain the required knowledge and skills relevant to modern digital world.” also “I believe that the engineering programmes should be run like the medical school, 3 years in school and 3 years in the hospital, therefore, the new cybersecurity lab will help prepare students for the industry” said Prof. Mark Adom Asamoah.
Virtual Infosec Africa Cybersecurity Training Lab has 17 complete computer systems that can help students and instructors to learn and practice advance cybersecurity skills and knowledge which is relevant in today’s academic environment and the industry.
Each student can have enough time to learn on cybersecurity and associated courses assisted by a seasoned instructor. The lab consists of two main parts; main larger room and smaller inner room, the main room is the part that houses the complete computer systems for the training whilst the inner room serves as conference room for presentations and meetings.
The lab will be running the following courses- Certified Ethical Hacking, Linux Certified Practitioner, Cybersecurity Analyst, Penetration Testing, Vulnerability Scanning and Analysis, Digital Forensics, EC-Council.
