Focus/Vision
The Communications, Networking and Signal Processing Laboratory (CSM-LAB) focuses on the design and analysis of algorithms, protocols, technologies and applications for current and future networks. It also focuses on the design, analysis of networks (Wireless, Computer and Fiber), network monitoring and performance. Intelligence and Smart Systems, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence.
Detailed Description of Research Activities
Research activities cover the following:
- Proofs of concept designs based on Software Defined Networking (SDN), Internet of Things (IoT), and other current trends in networking.
- Design and analysis of algorithms and protocols at different layers of the OSI model.
- Development of applications that run on current and future network platforms to solve societal problems.
- Spectrum sensing/estimation and interference awareness.
- Signal characterization (classification and identification of signals).
- Radio channel parameters estimation (millimeter waves, etc)
- Exploiting OFDM(A) and UWB for cognitive radio
- Channels measurements and modelling in irregular environments.
- Waveform/Modulation design beyond OFDMA (5G and beyond)
- Signal Direction Estimation and MIMO systems.
- Enhanced small cell deployments (Indoor/Outdoor).
- Device-to-Device (D2D) communication.
- Interference Coordination and Management.
- Intelligent and Smart Systems.
- Vehicular Networks (VANETs).
- Visible Light Communication (VLC)
- Software Defined and Wireless Sensor Networks (SDWSN)
- Use of microwave links to measure rainfall.
Lab Goals
- To help students/researchers develop research topics in the above-mentioned areas.
- To train students on how to use the research tools and software in the lab.
- To attract research grants to support research works of students.
- Develop and deploy solutions to tackle real-world problems.
- Hold weekly meetings between students and researchers on the progress of research works.
- Publish research findings.
- To impart high quality communication engineering education and professional ethics to students.
- To have adequate mechanics to enhance understanding of implementation of theoretical concepts in practical scenarios.
- To carry out high quality research leading to creation of knowledge and of intellectual property.
